Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, is a condition of the eyes in which distant objects appear in clearer focus than do objects closer to the eye. As a result, nearby objects appear blurry. In more severe cases, even distance objects may appear blurry without glasses, but the blur always increases with nearer objects. This underlying cause is usually a shorter-than-average eye, which results in light being focused behind the retina.
Treatment of Hyperopia
Hyperopia may be treated wih glasses or contacts. For patients with cataracts, hyperopia can be corrected as part of the cataraact surgery.
