Astigmatism is an eye condition that affects a high percentage of the population. It results from an imperfect curvature of eye (instead of being perfectly round, the eye is more “football” shaped where one axis is steeper than the other. This causes blurred vision at all distance (typically lines may look crooked and light sources will have a halo or starburst). Astigmatism can be corrected with glasses and contacts. For those patients who also have cataracts, astigmatism correction is an option as part of cataract surgery.
